Bijou Polari Appette pre-varda’d

Oooooh, BOLD! Polari, used for decades by gay men, actors, and theatre performers and which famously appeared on primetime radio show Round The Horne, has been brought up-to-date with a bijou iPhone appette. Fantabulosa! Heartfaces Jez Dolan and Joseph Richardson of Manchester have teamed up with language professor Paul Baker to revive the endangered language with a downloadable dictionary of 500 Polari words. They will launch the software at a new exhibition at the John Rylands Library during Manchester’s Pride Week this month. Must get my riah done.

The BBC radio programme “Round the Horne”, 1960s, starred Kenneth Horne (27 February 1907 – 14 February 1969) as himself, and Hugh Paddick (22 August 1915 – 9 November 2000) and Kenneth Williams (22 February 1926 – 15 April 1988) as Julian and Sandy (and other characters). Script by Barry Took (19 June 1928 – 31 March 2002) and Marty Feldman (8 July 1934 – 2 December 1982).
